Wish List Wednesday: New Year

I realize that the holidays have just passed and yes, I'm really worried that this post may come off as selfish or ungrateful so I want to give a small disclaimer:

This is by no mean me being unhappy with the gifts I was blessed with this past holiday season. This year I am really working on saving my money and budgeting more. Because of this, I have sat down and thought about a few items that are on my "Extended Wish List"... You know, that list of items that are always in the back of your mind that keep getting pushed back because of something new and shiny that catches your eye.

So, this is my List. The List. It's full of the basic, closet-essential pieces that will last and are versatile. Of course, since the holidays have since passed and I was able to build up my winter wardrobe, many items on this list are more for spring and summer, but could also work as summer-to-fall transition pieces.

 1. Navy and White Dresses
As I started to look through my closet, I noticed that I don't have many solid dresses. I have a black dress, but navy is my color. And I don't own a single white dress... probably because I have just recently started wearing dresses more casually. But, I was lucky that I made my list before the Lilly New Year Cheer Sale! I knew that I was on the prowl for navy and white dresses, and when I found these two- each around 60% off- I was prepared to buy them and know that I had thought it out ahead of time.

2. Monogram Jacks
I won't lie, I wasn't a fan of Jack Rogers in the beginning. I thought they looked like something my grandma would wear (not a jab at g-ma, she's pretty stylish!)... just not my style. But last year on spring break I found a pair in a boutique and tried them on. It was love. There was something about them actually on that I found enchanting. They're dressier than thong flip-flops, yet look cute with norts and a big t-shirt, too. I bought my first pair a few months after that fateful day, and it's only appropriate that I put my monogram on a pair and call it a day!

3. Tory Burch Riding Boots
So, not exactly a spring or summer purchase, these are definitely an investment piece. After much consideration I have added them to my list... Maybe this year and maybe the next, depending on how my boots that I already own hold up. I plan to make sure I have a coupon because I still don't think I can justify paying full price, but they are gorgeous. And since my feet have pretty much stopped growing, I'll get many good years out of them.

4. Something Scalloped
Last summer I came this close to buying a pair of Lilly seersucker and scalloped shorts. I know, perfection. But I didn't. Then J. Crew brought out that fabulous scalloped dress, which I also didn't buy. I'm probably behind the times and the hemline will go out of style as soon as I come around to buying an item but I feel that I've been given the signs and it's time to go for it... I just don't know when that will happen.

5. Maxi Dress
These used to be the one kind of dress I would wear. I think I had a purple one from Gap that I liked because it was flowy and made me look tall and lean... but I outgrew it and haven't thought to replace it. I started working out and liked to show off my legs which must have meant "goodbye, max dress!" But I think it'd time to get a new one. Prefect for spring, summer, and fall (and even winter if the colors are right) the right one can do amazing things for the body! I can count on Lilly to have fabulous options, but I'm not opposed to looking elsewhere if it means finding to perfect, complementary dress.

8. Monogram Necklace
Many of my friends find it shocking that I don't already own a necklace with my monogram, but I honestly just began wearing jewelry regularly this past year! Now that I love accessorizing with jewelry, I've begun purchasing personalized pieces and love them! Next on my list for a jewelry purchase is a gold monogram necklace. I know of many sellers that make them and I'm just waiting for the right time to "pull the trigger" on such a fun piece!

7. Hats!
Oh, how I have been loving hats this past year! From sun hats to ball caps, they're perfect with summer waves and second-day pony tails. I only have three really great caps as of now, but I want to up my collection! I love the Vineyard Vines and Polo options... especially this VV yellow. So pretty!

Well now that I'm looking at my list, I already have one of my 7 covered! And it's because of the list that I was able to focus during that Lilly sale and spend my money on dresses that will help round out my wardrobe instead of just that they were "pretty" (which they still are, so...). I'm hoping that making this list and sharing it will keep me accountable to saving and spending more wisely- by paying attention to sales and coupon codes to get the most for my money!

P.S. can you tell I'm over this cold weather? Bring me the sunshine, please!
