Inspirational Women: Jennifer Aniston

If you don't see Jen Aniston as an inspiration in the fullest sense of the word, let's just agree to disagree. Not only is she Hollywood's hottest 40+ -year-old, she has an amazing resume that she's built on her own character. She is so genuine in all of her interviews and is so versatile in the roles she plays.

She embraces Hollywood glamor and class. She's stayed out of scandal and keeps her personal life personal. She's funny and smart. At least for myself, she's capable of always making me laugh. She's not afraid to be herself. These traits have given her quite the following and fan-base. So basically, she's awesome!

All of this praise is great, but my most admired trait of hers is this:
She has a way of leaving much to be desired while also seeming completely open and friendly.

I have no clue how she accomplishes it, but she does. And she does so beautifully. In my opinion, this is what makes her such an inspiration. She's so friendly and happy- she makes people like me feel as if she and I could be awesome friends. At the same time, she's never really talked about... She keeps her personal life under wraps and has been able to sustain some amount of privacy. Her modesty and quirky personality help this, no doubt, but I still have no idea how she does it!
.............................................................
I have come nowhere close to reaching her level of fame, yet I feel as if I am less welcoming and less humble than she. It's weird to look at someone so famous and feel so incredibly inferior while so empowered at the same time. When I talk about her being inspiring, this is what I'm talking about- She has this aura of kindness that I completely look up to her for.

Who inspires you?

Girl Power Music!

Sometimes All the TIME(!) I need a little push to feel empowered...

Lately, I've used Demi Lovato's most recent album to seriously feel powerful, womanly, and just awesome! She's such an inspiring girl and the way that she fills her music with emotion really helps me connect to it. After listening to her music, I feel as if I could go out and find the first cute guy and ask him out... which would never happen on a normal day.

listen. then go out and do something crazy!

Something to Think About: Women in the Work Force

I've never really been one who fights strongly for women to have rights in the work place- I'd be more than happy using my MRS degree more than my Pharm D degree. But, women are necessary in the work force and deserve to have the ability to be successful. Regardless of who you are, we can all agree that women are always right ;)

All joking aside, I was able to really connect with what Sheryl talked about in this TED talk. I frequently get so down on myself and underestimate my abilities. This creates an inferiority complex and a self-fulfilling prophecy that only results in women (in this case, myself) being unsuccessful. I, like many women, do not always reach for opportunity.. usually because I feel that I don't want to disappoint and don't want to "set myself up for failure".

What Sheryl has done has opened my eyes to this idea. I need to be more aggressive and empowering in every aspect of my life. While being the CEO or COO of a company is not necessarily my main goal in life- and I don't necessarily think that women are more or less fit for that job than men- I do think that women who strive for that power deserve an equal shot at it.

To reach that, though, both men and women need to work to empower women.
